Bluegrass Entertainment at its Best – The David Mayfield Parade

If you missed last night’s BLAZING world-class instrumental artistry and television-comedy-writer worthy humor that had the SOLD OUT Lincoln Hall audience laughing from the moment they walked on stage to their cheering standing ovation at the end of The David Mayfield Parade show, WE’RE SORRY FOR YOU (-:

Because their third performance in Lincoln Hall and fourth in Foxburg (playing in the Bluegrass MiniFest at RiverStone Estate last summer) was their BEST EVER!

But ALL IS NOT LOST!

You can BUY THEIR NEW ALBUM and VINYL RELEASE – “GO BIG and GO HOME” – with its powerful song writing and play it and over and over again this summer – available on their website – https://www.davidmayfieldparade.com

Most all the works performed last night were on their new album – that deserves a GRAMMY nomination for the stunning songs in their very own commingled Bluegrass / Indie / Folk / Rock genre, sounding refreshingly original and but at the same time already iconic.

Their musical variety and richness kept bringing the audience higher as they were whooping after instrumental solos, singing in ‘call and response’, clapping in rhythm – and moved by the tender songs. The young people in the audience were delighted as well… young Lily said, “THEY are my favorite band. I couldn’t stop laughing!”

The new songs written and sung by resonator guitarist Ryan Wallen, especially “Day Time Moon”, are tightly professional arrangements with delightful turns and masterfully played by the rest of the band, David on guitar, Steven Moore on banjo, Graham Bell on upright bass and Keith Wallen on mandolin.

David Mayfield, the charismatic musical mischief maker, songwriter, virtuoso guitarist and comedian is simply a genius entertainer. And he has written new songs with lyrics and storytelling that go deep, touching the heart and awakening your Being.

So rare in the world of musical entertainment, David is more than his talent. He’s like a kindly, musical super-hero, bigger than life that takes his audience where others dare not – and cannot conceive to – go. And yet with his depth of humanity and those gentle baby blues behind all his musical escapades – with compassionate intent he makes it safe and inviting to go along – because you feel as if you’ve never left home.

And perhaps that is what he and the The David Mayfield Parade are inviting us to do with the title of their album… GO BIG (go WAY OUT THERE) and GO HOME (SAFE after the musical adventure.)

They’ll be back in Foxburg next year… but give yourself a summertime gift. Buy their album and join the Parade!

Our thanks to Karen and Bob Artis for their guidance with ARCA’s Bluegrass series, who for 15 years every July sold out Lincoln Hall with The Allegheny Drifters.

Wonderful to have Bernie Cunningham, guitarist with the Drifters at the show with his daughter and beloved 94 year old mother. In a sweet moment at the end of the night, she shared that the 10 year old Bernie had been saying, I want to play the guitar – so she ordered him his first guitar as a Christmas gift and hid it under the bed… only finding out a few years ago that he and his sister had found it and that he had only pretended he was surprised on Christmas Eve!

Bluegrass is All about FAMILY and that’s absolutely so with the Parade – as David’s father David Lee Mayfield – with whom he performed with his mom and sister starting out – was in the hall and Steven Moore’s dad was running sound.

All in a night of big-hearted Bluegrass! Grateful that THAT also is what ARCA is all about.
