The elegant natural beauty of RiverStone Farm in Foxburg, PA will serve as the backdrop for
an afternoon of a vivid blend of bluegrass, classical and rock genres. On Sunday, August 17 at 4:00 PM, the Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts will present the DePue Brothers Band, a nationally acclaimed group of accomplished versatile musicians. In addition, the public will have a window of opportunity to become an ARCA member and stay after the show to enjoy the annual Member Appreciation Picnic. Ticketing information for ARCA Members and the general public appears at the end.
For those not familiar with this iconic family bred in Bowling Green, Ohio, one is in for an ear-bending revelation. These four brothers are a musical powerhouse. Making music together for over 25 years, each brother is also a classical virtuoso in his own right and each brings rich and diverse talents to their sound.
They were named a “Musical Family of America” in 1989 by Presidential decree, were the subject of a nationally televised PBS documentary in 1993 and two brothers (Jason and Zach) were featured in the film music, “From the Inside Out”, in 2005.
Their first album as brothers, “Classical Grass”, sold out of its first printing. From New York’s Carnegie Hall, to the Grand Ole Opry, the DePue Brothers have been performing all over the world. Coming together with Tony Trischka, Mark Cosgrove, Don Liuzzi and Co-Producer Rodney Whittenberg, the band began performing and recording in 2004. “Weapons of Grass Construction”, with its progressive mix of genres, gives a direct nod to their classical training, while adding a deeper infusion of rock and blues.
From coast to coast and on NPR, the band’s performances merit rave reviews. David Rogers, Blowing Rock News: “The most complex “Orangeblossom Special” you have ever heard, mere textual descriptions cannot do it justice.” Larry Groce, Host and Artistic Director, Mountain Stage (NPR): “The DePue Brothers–nice guys, great players and the audience jumped up and cheered. How much better does it get?” Hal Real, President, World Cafe Live: “This band of brothers and symphonic friends gives real meaning to the phrase “progressive bluegrass”, bending genres while delivering a powerful mix of classical chops, blazing bluegrass and rock and roll.”
