Andrew Hazelton

Andrew Hazelton, born and raised in Whiteriver Junction, VT, is an Artist now living in Grove City, PA.  He has had a passion for art since childhood.  Having grown up in a wonderfully rural setting, he has always had a particular appreciation for nature and the solid quality and purity of life in and around it.  His hope is that viewers of his work will experience the emotional and spiritual connection he has to his subject matter.

Over the years, Andrew has been in multiple successful, solo and group exhibitions.  In addition, he has been featured in a New Hampshire magazine as an upcoming local artist.  He was selected to donate one of his trout paintings to the National Trout Unlimited Convention’s silent auction held in White River Junction, VT.  He also painted a mural depicting Sicilian culture that was on public display in downtown Grove City, PA for over a decade.

Andrew has a long history of awards including two Director’s Choice Awards from the Hoyt Arts and Education Center in New Castle, PA, a Corporate Award from the Bald Eagle Art League in Williamsport, PA and a Juror’s Recognition Award from the from AVA Gallery in Lebanon, NH.  He was selected as a nationally juried group wildlife art exhibitor for several years at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science in Woodstock, VT, and selected as an artist at McKeever Environmental Center Nature Art Exhibit in 2013 and 2014.  In May and June 2022 and 2023, he was accepted into the Westmoreland Art Nationals Juried Art and Photography Exhibitions in Pennsylvania.  He was also accepted into the Hoyt Arts and Education Fine Arts Center 50th Juried Regional Exhibition in May 2023 in New Castle, PA.

Artist Statement

I am primarily a self-taught artist who was fortunate to be mentored and instructed by the established artist Clifford B. West.  Some other artists who have been influential to my work include:  NC Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, Jamie Wyeth, Robert Bateman, Winslow Homer and Claude Monet.

In October of 2025 I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Transatlantic Experimentum Introduction to Print Making Class in the mountain village of Capiliera, Spain.  The class was taught by Master Print Maker, Maureen Sheldon.  Although the focus of the class was on several different print making techniques, my main intertest was drypoint intaglio.

My main medium is watercolor.  However, I sometimes incorporate other mediums such as gouache, acrylics, pastels, ink, graphite, and charcoal to produce mixed media artwork.  In addition, I have created pieces using a centuries old drawing medium known as silver point.

I consider my pieces to be studies of my art process which is ever evolving.  Although individual pieces are considered complete, my process renders a vastness waiting to be filled.  As I work to replenish the surface, I realize that it will never be complete.  It continues to be an exploration of self and creativity.

In this ever-changing world, I find it even more crucial to bring an awareness to the importance of preserving our natural environment through the visual arts.

Thank you for joining me on my creative journey.
