CHANTAL has been described as a feast for the eyes and  a ‘force of nature.’ Anyone who has seen her perform will agree.

But now more than ever, CHANTAL is determined to leave her own mark on the music industry.

Originally from Cape Cod, Chantal has performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, Indiana Jazz Festival, with the Boston Pops and Cape Symphony, and has toured with the Perry Rossi Orchestra.

Taking Pittsburgh by storm, Chantal was voted R&B Performer of the Year by the Pittsburgh City Paper in 2021, the first season she sold out Lincoln Hall in Foxburg – and again in 2024, when she returned.  Chantal has been a favorite at The Fairmont Hotel (in its day), City Winery, The Brick Shop, Carnegie Music Hall, Greer Cabaret Theatre Lounge, Edgewood Winery, Con Alma and appears weekly at Eddie V’s.

In HIGH DEMAND in Pittsburgh, Chantal has been dazzling audiences, performing at Jergels recently in a concert with tribute bands Earth Wind & Fire & Michael/Janet Jackson, starring in a recent Valentine’s Show at Lincoln Park Center for the Performing Arts, and performing in A Celebration of Billy Strayhorn & Gene Kelly and a recent Whitney Houston Tribute directed by Dwayne Fulton – both at the Kelly Strayhorn Theatre, among many others.

This charismatic artist has performed at The Hollywood Casino at The Meadows and at the Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens  – and with Hugo Cruz and the VOICE OF DRUMS musicians – singing and playing drums herself, as she has at Con Alma playing guitar and drums.

In collaborations with Pittsburgh musicians at the City Winery, she not only enchanted audiences with her gorgeous voice but also played drums in a tribute to the versatile singer, song-writer and pianist Nina Simone.

With people dancing at the back of the Lincoln Hall and grooving in their seats, Chantal has enchanted her ARCA audiences in two performances in 2021 and 2024  receiving a standing ovation – and is back by POPULAR DEMAND!

ARCA is grateful for the very generous donation of Linda and Michael Bradley sponsoring the return of Chantal Joseph and her band to Lincoln Hall.

Daniel May – Keyboard

Composer and pianist Daniel May had a very musical upbringing – both of his parents were his music teachers in Sioux Falls. May studied music composition at the University of Connecticut, where he received a Master’s degree in music composition and music theory.

He then went to Ithaca, New York, to study music composition at Cornell University. After earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Daniel has had a career as composer for feature films, television and, most notably, IMAX films.

Career highlights include his score to the award-winning IMAX film Everest. In his film scores, Daniel has collaborated with George Harrison (Everest), Sting (The Living Seas and Dolphins), Lindsay Buckingham (Adventures in Wild California), and The Moody Blues (Journey into Amazing Caves).

Additionally, May is a jazz pianist and has recorded extensively with some of the world’s foremost jazz artists.

During his career, May has produced and recorded more than 50 CD projects.

Dwayne Dolphin – Bass

Dwayne Dolphin is a virtuoso, world renowned jazz and funk bassist who is regarded as a master instrumentalist, no matter whether he is playing upright, electric or even the “piccolo” bass.

Beginning to play locally in Pittsburgh at the age of 15 with local legend Roger Humphries, after high school Dwayne joined the band of the Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.  Wynton said that Dwayne has “impeccable musicianship, a beautiful attitude and a workman-like disposition that is essential to great bass playing.”

Throughout his career, Dolphin has had the opportunity to play and record with the “Who’s Who” of national musicians, such as Nancy Wilson, Melba Moore, Fred Wesley, Abby Lincoln, soul saxophonist Maceo Parker and hard bopper Stanley Turrentine. Dwayne is a mainstay standout in the jazz scene of Pittsburgh, working with  local greats such as Roger Humphries, Pete Henderson and Carl Arter.

Dolphin’s discography is extensive with eight albums as a leader or co-leader and more than a dozen as a sideman to many, including Nancy Wilson, Fred Wesley and John Hicks.

Dwayne Dolphin’s Indigenous, his eighth solo album release spanns smooth funk, jazz, world, Brazilian and many other styles, bringing “something for everyone” to the table.

The reviewer of his his first solo album in 1993 Portrait of Adrian observed that “Dolphin’s tone is round and full, and he’s got an agile technique. Certainly the late Paul Chambers must have been an influence; like Chambers, Dolphin tends to place his unfussy improvisations in the instrument’s lower register. Consequently, his lines are solidly melodic and generally to the point.”

A member of the Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of fame, Dwayne still tours all over the world both as a solo artist and as a sideman.  Most notably he is the bassist in the New JB’s (the band that backed James Brown). Dolphin also has mentored current jazz star, trumpeter and composer Sean Jones.

What is it to be a virtuoso?  Whether it is funk, jazz, smooth, easy listening, traditional jazz, or almost any other genre, Dwayne plays it all on his electric bass, piccolo bass, and acoustic bass.

George Heid, III – Drums & Percussion

George Heid III is a drummer, percussionist, and composer whose diverse musical passions range from jazz, funk and classical to world and electronic genres.

George Heid III grew up in his father’s recording studio and began playing drums and piano at age 3. In this environment, he was always immersed in music and surrounded by powerful musical influences, such as jazz guitarist Jimmy Ponder and his uncle Bill Heid, a world-class pianist and Hammond B3 jazz musician.

George’s earliest studies took place at the Afro American Music Institute where he studied with Thomas Wendt and James Johnson III. Later George would graduate from Pittsburgh’s Creative and Performing Arts high school, where he was mentored by jazz drumming legend Roger Humphries. After high school, he studied at Pittsburgh’s Duquesne University as well as at State University of New York: Purchase, where he studied with master jazz drummers Kenny Washington, John Riley and Richie Morales.

George has toured and played at numerous notable jazz venues across the United States and China, including three multi-month residencies in Hangzhou, China. He has recorded with numerous well-known artists, including Bill Heid, Dwayne Dolphin, Joe “Sonny” Barbato, Daniel May, Antonio Croes, Benny Benack III, Brett Williams, Victor Provost, Ron Blake, Henry “The Skipper” Franklin, Sean Jones, Warren Wolf, Bob Reynolds, David Budway, Orrin Evans, Roger Humphries, Jamey Haddad and Steve Shehan. He’s also performed at numerous festivals, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival, Tri-C Jazz Fest Cleveland, Washington Jazz Festival, among others.

George is the recipient of numerous awards as both a performer and composer, including the 2013 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, Downbeat magazine’s 2013 Best Original Jazz Composition award, and back-to-back Outstanding Soloist awards at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival awards in 2011 and 2012.
