“Pianist Kenneth Broberg thrilled, delighted, and enchanted in an intimate recital.”
“His interpretation was… ecstatic, melancholy, and passionate.“
“Kenny Broberg is undoubtedly one of his generation’s most compelling and exciting pianists.” South Florida Classical Review
Experience the “breathtaking virtuosity” of top prize winner in the Tchaikovsky, Van Cliburn and American Pianist Awards competitions, KENNY BROBERG, who will play Romantic masterpieces with his “elegant touch” and “sensitivity on Sunday, August 18 at 2 PM in Lincoln Hall – as we celebrate the 90th Birthday of Dr. Arthur Steffee, ARCA’s founder & president, who rebuilt the original Fox estate creating RiverStone Farm, and built the businesses in the village of Foxburg.
In a recent performance for the Miami International Piano Festival, Kenny Broberg “thrilled, delighted, and enchanted in an intimate recital.” Critics agree:
“He drew the audience in and didn’t let go until the last quiet note. Liszt wrote symphonies for the piano; Broberg’s interpretation was symphonic in tone, color and sound. What a way to conclude not only his recital, but the entire solo part of the competition…the audience cheered him on stage four times!”– Culture Spot LA
Raise a champagne toast to Dr. Arthur Steffee at the concert’s intermission and join the festive celebration of his 90th birthday, as you meet the artists after the concert at the Wine & Cheese Reception at the Red Brick Gallery and Gift Shop for the opening of the exhibit featuring Cheri Anderton-Yarnell, ceramicist, and DP Warner, landscape painter, from 4 to 6 PM in the Upstairs Gallery. The Red Brick Gallery is adjacent to Lincoln Hall at 17 Main Street, Foxburg. No admission to the reception.
ARCA is grateful for the very generous financial support of ARCA founder and Board members Dr. Arthur and Marybeth Steffee who have sponsored the debut concert of Kenny Broberg at the Lincoln Hall Steinway, which instrument they gifted to ARCA.
Hailed as “one of the most intelligent and intense artists on the concert stage today,” Kenny Broberg appears as the winner of the 2021 American Pianists Awards and Christel DeHaan Fellowship.
Of his performances during the finals of the American Pianists Award competition, The Indianapolis Star wrote that,“Broberg mastered everything he performed… pulling a palette of moods from every register. “ In the ‘Dante Sonata’ from Liszt’s Years of Pilgrimage, the pianist easily captured the drama in the journey, marrying all of the energy of those emotions in the epic ending.”
Kenny received the Bronze prize in the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition and is the winner of the Silver medal at the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for performances which showed “an imaginative shaping of themes, revelation of inner voices, and an unfailing sense of momentum.” (Texas Classical Review)

About Kenny Broberg
Before winning the 2021 American Pianist Awards and Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship, Kenny Broberg captured the silver medal at the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and a bronze medal at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition as well as prizes at the Hastings, Sydney, Seattle and New Orleans International Piano Competitions, becoming one of the most decorated and internationally renowned pianists of his generation. Broberg is lauded for his inventive, intelligent and intense performances.
Crediting his first exposure to classical music to his Italian grandfather’s love of the Three Tenors, Broberg began piano lessons on his family’s upright piano at age 6. During his childhood in Minneapolis, he began studying piano with Dr. Joseph Zins at Crocus Hill Studios in Saint Paul.
Throughout high school, Kenny balanced his musical lessons with playing baseball and hockey. He remains an avid fan for both the Minnesota Twins and Wild and checks their scores while on breaks during his practice.
Kenny said of his love of baseball, “I started playing T-ball when I was 5 years old and played baseball through high school. Since I grew up in Minneapolis, I’m an avid Twins fan. To this day, I’ll watch any Twins game on my phone during baseball season checking scores the minute I quit practicing. And, I still love to throw a ball with friends just to blow off steam.”
Broberg earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2016 at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, studying under Nancy Weems. He continued his studies at Park University in Parkville, Missouri, under the direction of Stanislav Ioudenitch, the gold medalist at the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Starting in the 2022-2023 academic year, Broberg will join the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid as Deputy Professor of the Fundación Banco Santander Piano Chair led by Ioudenitch.
Performing on stages and in concert halls across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America, Broberg has worked with some of the world’s most respected conductors, including Ludovic Morlot, Kent Nagano, Leonard Slatkin, Vasily Petrenko, Nicholas Milton, John Storgårds, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Gerard Schwarz and Stilian Kirov.
Kenny has collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic and the Minnesota, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Sydney, Seattle and Fort Worth Symphonies, among others. He has been featured on WQXR, Performance Today, Minnesota Public Radio and ABC (Australia) radio, and presented his original composition “Barcarolle” on NPR in March 2021.
Kenny released his CD Sonatas by Medtner, Rachmaninov and Scriabin on the Steinway & Sons label in 2023, which was named one of AllMusic‘s favorite albums of 2023.
As a part of the 2021 American Pianist Awards, Kenny was rewarded the Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship – a prize valued at $200,000 designed to assist him as he builds his musical career. It includes $50,000 in cash, two years of professional development and assistance and performance opportunities worldwide. Broberg will also work with students and host performances during his time on campus as the Artist-in-Residence at the University of Indianapolis. Before embarking on his international concerts, Broberg performed in his adopted home of Kansas City, Missouri, for the concert “KC Celebrates Kenny Broberg” in September 2021.
